When it comes to dog training, dog treats play an important role in the application of positive reinforcement. Dog training treats are used by dog owners and trainers of dogs of any kind of breed and size as a reward for showing good behavior and obedience.  By giving dog treats when the dog does something good, you are creating a pleasant association with the desired action.

There are different types of dog training treats.  You can try different brands and flavors until you find one that your dog really likes.  There are some dogs that do not like treats, in those cases it is better to replace a treat with a toy.

With repeated use of treats to train a dog, he will start seeing that obeying you will be pleasant and will be rewarded with a tasty treat. It will also establish you as the “food provider” and this will put you in a higher place in the dog’’s mind.  Dogs are naturally grouped in packs where there is an alpha dog. Since you are part of his “pack” you will be the alpha dog.  This will also let the dog be more friendly with other people.

Dog training treats must be used wisely, keep in mind to avoid giving your dog treats all day or else you”ll end up having a fat dog with poor nutrition.  Treat must be used only with training and if possible using natural products.  If you are worried about your dog’’s nutrition you can also have homemade dog treats that will reinforce the good habits and provide a good nutrition every time.

There are times when petting and scratching the dog behind the ear will serve also as a good reward.  Try to mix things up and avoid over training.
