So, having trouble with your dog jumping on you, company, or whoever? You see, this is not a surprise when you really understand what makes a dog jump up on people, and there are several different reasons why a dog will jump up. This dog obedience jumps information will be useful to you.

For one, your dog probably jumps because he loves you, is excited to see you, and wants attention from you. The same goes for company.  If your dog likes company, he will probably jump on them for attention as well.  Another reason a dog may jump is that when they are puppies, they jump up to lick their mom’’s face when they want attention, to play, or to eat. This is a natural instinct built into your dog from years and years of his ancestors being in the wild. Even grown dogs greet face to face, so, it is easy to see why your dog likes to jump at your face when greeting you.

Understanding this about your dog is the first key to teaching him/her obedience. Jumping can be stopped, and I will give you a few ideas on  how to make your favorite friend more obedient when it comes to jumping.

First off, teaching your dog needs to be ongoing, reinforced, and never undermined. You need to show your dog consistency so that he/she understands what you are trying to teach him/her. Never pick up your puppy and nuzzle face to face, this reinforces the jumping instinct.

Try using a leash when company comes over. Stand on the leash, and your dog will not be able to jump, and then reward him/her for staying down.  Always praise your dog when he/she does a good job, and award a snack when your dog does extra good. And never forget, your dog WANTS to learn what pleases you. So work together, don‘t give up, and trust me, it will be worth it.
