  • Basic Dog Training

If you want your dog to be more than just a simple ornament in your house, you should start by teaching some basic dog training commands.  This type of dog training is very easy to find if you do not have enough time or knowledge, you can find trainers and schools practically anywhere and this is something that will help your dog develop and will strengthen the communication with you, the owner.

What are the basic commands a dog must learn?  There are five of them and you must have heard at least a couple: sit, stay, down, come (recall), and close.  These five commands will get you started with obedience and will make the company of your dog much more enjoyable.

How does the dog learn these basic commands?  Well it’’s basically through repetition and rewards.  If you go to different dog trainers, you will also find that they will have their own techniques and details.  For example some trainers prefer to give toys as rewards instead of cookies or other type of food. Then you need to repeat to let the dog associate the command to the behavior.  Classes and dog training books are aimed at teaching you the technique, but only through practice (this means you and your dog alone on your free time) you will see real progress.

Here, it is important to notice also, that when doing basic dog training practices, you should not extend for too long.  Over training happens in dogs too, and after a while they lose interest in practice - so it stops being fun.

Starting with basic dog training is easy.  You should begin by taking a look at the different schools in your area, if you can”t find any; there are some pretty good guides and books that show you how to teach your dog the basic commands.
