So, trying to decide whether or not to crate train your dog? I know it’’s not an easy decision to make. You want what’’s best for you favorite four legged-friend, and to see your dog go through more difficulty than necessary isn”t what you desire.

Well, here are some pros and cons that my help you decide what is best for you, and for your furry little friend! The debate about crate training has been going on for a while, and will probably continue long into the future. In a nutshell, those who endorse the ideology of crate training believe that your dog will reap more benefits than if he/she was allowed to go free. For one, he/she will be more easy to potty train, since your dog won”t want to soil its “territory”. Another argument for crate training is that your dog will benefit from having a place of his own to retreat to. Some say that once your dog learns that the crate is his domain, he will often retreat to it, since it is a place of familiarity to him.

Now, there are also several arguments against crate training. Some say that it is “cruel” to have your dog locked up in a crate only slightly larger than he is. Others say that locking up your dog in a crate hampers his need to free roam and explore. One of the best pieces of advice I have heard is this. Since crate training will not hurt your dog, try it for a little while. If he/she seems to detest it, forget it. If you find your dog often retreating to their little space for time alone, which may very well happen, than continue. Whatever you do, just keep in mind that as long as you are doing your very best to care for your dog, you will make the right choice.
